BMW recommends the “Repair kit wave spring for wastegate valve actuator” (Part No: 11655A7A286) to address wastegate linkage play. The kit includes:

• Spacer Ring (01)
• Wave Spring (02)
• Retaining Ring (03)

This solution restores proper tension to the wastegate actuator and eliminates rattling without replacing the entire turbocharger.

Step-by-Step Repair Instructions
Preliminary Work
Technical Revision 2 (Transverse & Longitudinal Engines):
Follow repair manual 11 65 803. Key steps: remove acoustic cover, intake filter housing, resonator, and clean air pipe as needed.
Technical Revision 1 (Longitudinal Engines):
Remove acoustic cover, intake filter housing, intake manifold, clean air pipe, front hood seals, strut brace (B48A20T1), and disconnect battery if necessary.
Technical Revision 1 (Transverse Engines):
Additional removals may include electronics box, battery holder, lambda sensors, engine guard, front right wheel, and heat shield above the turbocharger.

1. Do NOT loosen the M6 lock nut on the wastegate linkage.
2. Loosen the four screws attaching the wastegate valve actuator by approximately 2 turns.
3. Remove the retaining ring and torsion spring.

5. Reattach the wastegate linkage and install the retaining ring.
6. Tighten screws in a crisscross pattern to 3 ± 0.5 Nm.
