BMW FEM System Versions:
BMW has released three versions of the FEM system to date:

2. FEM2: The FEM2 was introduced in 2014 and is currently used in BMW models. It has improved functionality and can control more systems than the FEM1, including the central locking system, wipers, and air conditioning.
3. FEM3: The FEM3 is the latest version of the FEM system and is expected to be introduced in future BMW models. It is expected to have even more advanced features, including wireless charging and enhanced security features.

How the BMW FEM System Works:
The BMW FEM system works by controlling the different features of the car through a network of sensors and modules. The FEM communicates with other modules in the car, such as the Engine Control Unit (ECU), to ensure that everything is working correctly.
The FEM system also plays a crucial role in the security of BMW cars, serving as the gateway to the BMW CAS system. BMW Key Types:
There are two main types of keys used with the BMW FEM system:

1. Smart Key: This key contains a microchip that communicates with the FEM system wirelessly. The smart key allows the driver to lock, unlock and start the car with the push of a button.
2. Comfort Access Key: This key contains a proximity sensor that allows the car to be unlocked without pressing any buttons. When the key is within range, the car will automatically unlock, and the engine can be started by pressing a button.
