How to Unlock NBTevo VO Lock on BMW: Step-by-Step Tool32 & E-Sys Guide (2025)

If you’ve ever tried enabling features like CarPlay, Navigation, or Video in Motion on a BMW with an NBTevo head unit, you’ve likely run into the VO Lock — BMW’s way of preventing unauthorized changes to the Vehicle Order (VO).

​What is VO Lock in NBTevo?
The Vehicle Order (VO) Lock is a firmware-level restriction introduced by BMW to prevent tampering with the head unit’s FA/VO (Fahrzeugauftrag). Once active, it blocks re-coding or modification via standard tools, especially after NBTevo_P.
If you're using firmware versions H through O, a USB stick may be enough. But for versions P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W, you’ll need a more advanced approach — and that’s where Tool32 and E-Sys come in.

 Tools You'll Need

• ENET Cable (Ethernet-to-OBD interface)
• Windows Laptop
• E-Sys (3.27 - 3.30 recommended)
• Tool32 (Part of BMW Standard Tools)
• Full PSdZData set (not Lite)
• Ediabas Configuration
• Optional: ZGW Search Tool, BMW Launcher Pro, ISTA-D

 Step-by-Step: Unlock NBTevo VO Lock
Step 1: Setup Your System

1. Install E-Sys and Launcher Pro.
2. Install BMW Standard Tools (includes Tool32).
3. Place the correct HU_NBT2.prg file in Tool32’s folder.
4. Confirm PSdZData is fully loaded into E-Sys.

Step 2: Backup FA/VO

• Connect your BMW via ENET Cable.
• Open E-Sys, go to Expert Mode > Coding.
• Read FA/VO and save your original configuration.

Step 3: Configure Tool32

• Navigate to Tool32’s installation folder.
• Ensure EDIABAS.INI has:
  Interface = ENET
• Open Tool32 and load HU_NBT2.prg.
• Confirm the connection (check bottom status bar).

Step 4: Run VO Unlock Job

• In Tool32, locate the job:
  steuern_reset_veh_order_lock
• Double-click the job to execute it.
• If successful, you’ll see “OKAY” in the result field.

Step 5: Re-Code Using E-Sys

• Reopen E-Sys.
• Load and activate your saved FA.
• Go to Coding > Read SVT > HU_NBT2 > Code.
• This writes your FA to the now-unlocked HU.

✅ Post-Unlock: What's Next?
Now that the VO Lock is removed, you're free to:

• Enable Apple CarPlay (6CP)
• Activate Navigation (NAV)
• Add Video In Motion, Voice Control, and more
• Retrofit features and modify FA without restriction

For example, to enable CarPlay:

• Add 6CP and 6NW to FA.
• Code HU_NBT2 again.
