When installing a used ECU (e.g., from another vehicle), the stored working hours (Betriebsstunden) often don’t match your car’s actual runtime. This can:

• Trigger DTCs or faults
• Cause issues with CAS/ECU sync
• Block certain functions or adaptations
• Raise red flags during diagnostics or resale

Resetting working hours ensures the module integrates cleanly with your car's system — especially when performing advanced retrofits, tuning, or ECU replacement.

​Step-by-Step: Resetting DME/DDE Working Hours
1. Initial Setup

• Install E-Sys and Tool32
• Make sure Tool32 is linked to the proper EDIABAS configuration
• Connect your ENET/DoIP cable to the vehicle
• Turn ignition ON, engine OFF

2. Identify ECU in E-Sys

• Launch E-Sys
• Load your FA (Vehicle Order)
• Go to VCM → Read SVT (Actual)
• Identify the target ECU (e.g., DME_1720, DDE_73K1)
• Note the exact PRG name used for that ECU

3. Run the Reset in Tool32

• Open Tool32
• Load the correct PRG file:
  • Go to File → Load SGBD Group File
  • Enter your ECU PRG (e.g., DME_1720.prg)
• In the job list, locate:
  • reset_betriebsstunden or clear_betriebsstunden
  • Some variants may use steuergeraet_reset
• Double-click the job to execute
• Output should confirm: Job finished OK or similar

4. Verify the Reset

• Use lesen_betriebsstunden job to read current hours
• Value should return 0 or a low runtime value
• Reboot ignition and scan with ISTA+ or similar to confirm sync
