How to Delete xDrive on BMW FSeries GSeries Using ESys and Tool32
The xDrive all-wheel-drive system is a staple in modern BMW engineering, offering enhanced grip, performance, and control. But for driving enthusiasts, track users, or those seeking a true rear-wheel-drive experience, disabling xDrive may be a goal.
Why Disable xDrive?
Many owners seek to disable xDrive for:
  • Rear-wheel-drive dynamics for drifting or track use
  • Reducing drivetrain weight
  • Simplifying power delivery
  • Diagnosing or isolating AWD-related faults
However, xDrive is deeply integrated into the vehicle’s electronics and drivetrain, so it must be approached with technical precision.
Step-by-Step: Disabling xDrive via E-Sys
1. Read and Save Vehicle Order (FA/VO)
  • Launch E-Sys and connect to your vehicle.
  • Read the FA and save a backup.
  • Locate and delete VO entries related to xDrive. Common ones include:
    • 223 – xDrive
    • 2TE, 2TB – AWD transmission options
  • Save the modified FA.
2. Code Target ECUsWith the updated VO:
  • Right-click on ECUs such as:
    • ICM (Integrated Chassis Module)
    • VTG (Transfer Case Control)
    • DSC (Stability Control)
    • EGS (Transmission)
  • Select “Code” (not "Code Default") to apply changes.
3. Optional: FDL Coding for Fine Tuning
Drill into FDL coding to deactivate xDrive-specific behaviors:

Note: Not all parameters are available on every model. Always cross-check your PSdZData version.

Tool32: Advanced VTG Control

Use Tool32 for direct interaction with the VTG module (xDrive transfer case).
Steps:
  1. Open Tool32 and load the correct PRG file (e.g., VTG60.prg for F-Series).
  2. Available commands include:
    • status_lesen – Read current module status.
    • loesche_feherspeicher – Clear fault memory.
    • steuergeraet_reset – Reset ECU.
    • vtg_steuerung_deaktivieren – Deactivates xDrive control (if supported).
⚠️ Important Notes:
  • Some G-Series VTG modules require a newer PRG file.
  • vtg_steuerung_deaktivieren is not always supported.
  • Improper use of Tool32 may cause drivetrain or DSC errors.

🚫 Don’t Physically Remove xDrive Without Software Prep
Physically removing the front driveshaft or unplugging the VTG without proper coding will cause:
  • ABS/DSC errors
  • Drivetrain malfunctions
  • Limp mode activation
BMW ECUs expect communication from the VTG and will fault if it’s missing.
