What is a DPF Filter and What Does It Do?
A DPF filter captures soot particles created when diesel is burned in the engine. This collection of carbon compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) absorbs sunlight and contributes to global warming. To meet environmental standards, diesel cars now come with particulate filters as standard. The filter must not be clogged, broken, or dirty to ensure the emission standards are met.
How a Particulate Filter Works
The particulate filter is attached to the exhaust system between the engine and the exhaust, where it captures soot particles. The filter is made of ceramic material that holds these particles. Over time, the filter becomes full, typically every 200 to 1000 km. When this happens, the car's engine increases the exhaust gas temperature to burn off the soot, leaving behind harmless ash.

- Use Special Engine Oil: Low-saps oil reduces metallic additives, phosphorus, and sulphur.

- Fill Up with Good Quality Fuel: Prevents quick clogging.
- Regular Maintenance: Have the filter checked during MOT or maintenance.
