What is personal profile?
In the past series vehicles there were various options or settings (e.g. daytime driving lamps) that could be changed or modified to the customer’s choice of settings. These options could only be changed by BMW dealer diagnostic computers or independent diagnostic software. These options were referred to as Car/Key Memory settings.
The C/K memory options were a way for the customer to personalize various operational aspects of their BMW to their liking. It was very expensive and time consuming for the customer to return to the dealer to have their Car/Key memory changed maybe upon adding new drivers to the vehicle or a change of mind, either way this was an inconvenience to the customer.
Personal profile gives the customer the means to personalize the vehicles features. The customer can at anytime (not when driving) quickly change the settings of the vehicle for that particular remote transmitter within the options provided.
The individual remote transmitter has the ability to retain a customer’s particular settings changed within the vehicle.
The remote transmitter can remember last seat position, mirror positions, preset and current radio stations, IHKA (heating/cooling) settings. Upon exiting the vehicle, when the vehicle is locked those various customer preferences are saved to that particular remote. So the next time the customer returns to the vehicle, their favorite radio station and seat position along with other options are as they last had them.

The CAS2 module assigns a personalization number to each remote transmitter. During the unlocking procedure the CAS2 module transfers the personalization number on to the other control modules via the K-CAN. The Personal Profile settings are saved when the remote transmitter is removed from the holder, the vehicle is locked and the vehicle assumes sleep mode.
