LCM 2
Main Beam Problem
This LCM2 module was fitted to 5 Series (E39) & 7 Series (E38) up to Sep 98 & can be distinguished from the later LCM’s by the large metal heat sink sticking out the top of the case. If your LCM does
not have this heat sink then you have one of the later LCM3 or LCM4 units (see menu)
This repair service specifically covers the fault where either 1 or both main beams remain on when
the key is removed & the car is locked up. This fault is caused by shorted driver transistors which
must be replaced. We replace these transistors with the same branded (Infineon) components.
Because the LCM module stores both the vehicle VIN & mileage it means that if you just swap out the unit for a replacement unit you will have a red ‘Tamper Dot’ on the instrument cluster alongside the mileage display. This indicates to a potential buyer that the mileage displayed may not be correct
When we repair your existing LCM you will not have this problem as no changes are made to the programming of the unit making repair a much better option.
